Mention the term “road rage,” and most people imagine obscene gestures, excessive use of the car horn, tailgating, and other unsafe behavior directed towards other drivers, sometimes for perceived slights or, at times, for unsafe or reckless driving. Common behaviors associated with aggressive driving include speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane changes, or failure to obey traffic signals. There are no firm statistics for the number of aggressive driving-related car accidents. The NHTSA estimates, however, that aggressive driving accounted for about one-third of all car accidents, and about two-thirds of the resulting fatalities.
