RAPE - HIGH PROFILE CELEBRITY RAPE CASE

The defendant, a production manager for a high-profile internationally known Grammy award winning musician, was arrested on rape charges in Boston's Logan Airport by customs, after returning from a USO tour to the Persian Gulf.

CASE DETAILS

The arrest warrant charged defendant with committing rape on several occasions in the state of Kentucky. Initially the name of the rape victim was withheld. Defendant was accused of being violent and having threatened the victim. Victim accused defendant of utilizing resources available to him in traveling with national touring rock musician, and alleged that he had raped her on multiple occasions. Victim further alleged that defendant had threatened her, including leaving threatening messages written in blood. Victim also alleged to Kentucky authorities that a friend of the defendant had threatened her not to appear in court, and fired a bullet into the dashboard of her car. The Kentucky authorities requested that the Massachusetts court hold the defendant without bail until they could transfer him to Kentucky. Attorney O'Brien appeared with the defendant in East Boston District Court and successfully secured the defandant's release on bail, over objection. Attorney O'Brien thereafter traveled to Kentucky to represent the defendant in the case.

CRIMINAL LAWYER CASE RESULTS

Attorney O'Brien presented an alibi defense that was able to exonerate the defendant and expose a fraud perpretrated by the alleged victim. It was ultimately established that the alleged victim wrote the letter, staged the shooting, and fabricated the entire rape allegations. The criminal charges against the defendant were dismissed and the alleged victim was thereafter prosecuted and convicted for fabricating the charges. In addition to being sentenced for her crime, the alleged victim was sued by Attorney O'Brien on behalf of the defendant, who had incurred substantial legal fees in defending the charges. Attorney O'Brien successfully recovered the entire amount of legal fees which had been expended by his client.
