Traffic fatalities caused by alcohol-impaired drivers jump by about ten percent over the Christmas and New Years holidays. A 2007 report from the National Highway Transportation Safety Board found that throughout the year, approximately thirty-percent of all traffic fatalities were caused by alcohol-impaired drivers. Other hallmarks of a drunk driver include cars driving without their headlights on at night, cars driving 10 miles per hour above or below the posted speed limit or cars that are following too closely. The Department advises drivers to call 911 if they observe a vehicle driving in this manner.
